Comforters
A comforter is a one-piece filled blanket — the simplest way to top a bed. The catch: warmth is fixed at purchase. Buy by fill and construction, not by how fluffy the listing photo looks.
The three numbers that matter
Fill power (down only). The loft of the down: 550–650 is solid all-season quality; 700+ is lighter yet warmer, at a price. Below 550, you're paying for feathers.
Fill weight. The actual amount of insulation, in ounces or GSM. This — not fill power — decides how warm the comforter sleeps. Lightweight (~20–30 oz queen), all-season (~35–45 oz), winter (50 oz+).
Construction. Baffle-box (fabric walls between top and bottom) keeps fill even; sewn-through is cooler and cheaper but creates cold spots along stitch lines. Details in the construction guide.
