That is arithmetic, not fraud — you are also paying for two shams. Sham backs: an envelope back with a 6″ overlap holds a pillow; a plain slit does not. Shell thread count: sets cluster at 200 to 250 TC microfiber or cotton blend, honest for the money but quicker to pill than a 300 TC cotton sateen. Do comforter sets include sheets?
A comforter set is normally the comforter plus two shams, sometimes with a bed skirt or decorative pillow. A "bed in a bag" adds a flat sheet, fitted sheet and pillowcases. Read the piece count and the list, because a seven-piece set can mean either.
Are the shams in a set worth having?
They are the main reason to buy a set. Matching the exact dye lot of a comforter with separately bought shams is difficult, and shams bought alone often cost a third of what the whole set does. Standard shams are 20×26″, king shams 20×36″.
Can I use a duvet cover over a set comforter?
Yes, and it is a good way to rescue a set whose fill you like and whose print you do not. Check for corner loops first. Without loops the comforter will rotate inside the cover, and a light fill migrates faster than a heavy one.
